Webinar Highlights: Get More From SPNS9

Our webinar “Get More From SPNS9” on May 15th, 2020 was a huge success. The webinar demonstrated 6 new exciting upgrades to the SYSTRAN Pure Neural Server 9.6’s, further scaling its technological capabilities. Thank you to those who joined us.

In this post, we have compiled the highlights from the presentation and answers to the questions we receive after.

1. Enhanced Authentication

The main highlight of the new version of SPNS 9.6 is the ability to give users heightened authentication ensuring maximum security.

Users now have the ability to configure OAuth authentication directly from GUI. OAuth is a dedicated authorization framework for REST API that enables apps to obtain limited access to user’s data while maintaining protection of user’s password. It decouples authentication from authorization and supports multiple use cases addressing different device capabilities.

User also now have the ability to use several authentication providers in parallel such as Local, SAML, OAuth, HttpHeaders. These can be used through our dedicated URL endpoints.

Also implemented are Whitelist and Blacklist features that allows server admins to map group creation and association of each authentication provider. The Whitelist feature makes it so admins can only add groups that match one of the regular expressions when user is logging in with external provider. The Blacklist feature filters out groups when user is logging in with external provider.

Watch the recording of our webinar here to learn more about the whitelist and blacklist feature.

Easy Migration With Google API

The new update streamlines the integration of SYTRAN. A new key is all that is needed. Users don’t have to change syntax or coding, and can actually use the same Google API to integrate with SYSTRAN’s solution seamlessly. Furthermore, it facilitates GDPR compliance. European customers’ critical information will be secure and protected. For users and organizations moving away from Google, the solution is SYSTRAN.

Rules-Based API

Rules-Based API makes it possible for users to either allow or deny other users.  The allowances and restrictions can be applied to the SES-Gateway, working like a firewall. Users or a group of users are only allowed to access and perform tasks, like defining expressions for translation, only if specific conditions or rules are satisfied. For example, admins can create a rule that restricts user from access to certain capabilities or they must require authorization from manager or superior.

PDF 3 Ways

The new converter, Easy Converter comes with more modes. Typically, scanned PDF files are entered through OCR and editable PDFs are entered through Precise PDF. However, if you’re not sure if it’s scanned or editable, the Auto mode in Easy Converter automatically determines the type for you. Lastly, if formatting isn’t necessary, Fast PDF is an option, which works well for e-discovery.

Easy Converter is the SDK that powers up websites like pdfonline.com. It provides better results than any OCR of PDF files.

Access Management Enhanced

New permissions have been introduced that are more fine-grained. There are permissions for almost everything ranging from permissions to manage all server profiles to creating and sharing public profiles, and listing all the server translation memories.

API Security Enhancements

Security is further enhanced by reviewing the API key systems and implementing a new UI for the API key creation. API Key Restrictions are implemented by adding a key and a value to the API key. For instance, ‘Referrer’ tells the URL from which the request will be accepted and the IP address reveals the IP address from which the request will be accepted.

Other features of enhanced stability and security of SPNS9 include:

  • Ability to set a password authentication in Redis config files for TRM
  • Re-authentication made mandatory when changing information like email or password
  • Security enhancements of file translations (XML Parser Security)

Q+A – Post Webinar

  1. Can I get a demonstration of the new PDF offerings? Yes absolutely! If interested in a demo, please contact us
  2. For the API restrictions what version of SYSTRAN do I need? The new UI to enhance the security of API key is version SPNS 9.6.
  3. We have a large community of users that use Google API. If we transfer them over, do they count as users on our SYSTRAN license? It is not a user issue as they are using API, which is not dependent on number of users.

A huge thanks to everyone who joined us for this webinar.
