SYSTRAN Mobile Translator FAQ


1. Installation Questions

1.1. Installation hangs when SYSTRAN Mobile dialog box attempts to connect to the mobile device. What should I do?

This happens on rare occasions when the installer fails to install SYSTRAN Mobile on the mobile device. Follow the instructions below to complete the installation:

  1. Click Cancel on the SYSTRAN Mobile dialog box, and click Finish on the installer to complete the installation.
  2. Open Active Sync and select Tools -> Add/Remove Programs... The installation program should start automatically on your mobile device.
  3. Follow the instructions and complete the installation.
  4. On your PC, go to Start->All Programs->SYSTRAN Mobile-> SYSTRAN Mobile Configuration Utility.
  5. Follow the instructions to complete installing the language pairs on your mobile device.

1.2. A warning indicating that the "product is coming from unknown publisher", appears. What should I do?

A similar warning will appear during installation when starting up SYSTRAN Mobile and changing language pairs on some mobile devices. You can safely ignore the message. Simply tap Yes and continue with the operation. The message may take a moment to disappear so please be patient. This warning appears when any component or language pair is loaded for the very first time.


1.3. I get an error when I choose to install additional languages on "main memory" instead of on "SD card"

The error is known to us. Please refrain from installing additional languages on "main memory".


1.4. Windows 2000 users: Please do the following prior to installation :

  1. Download the following package from SYSTRAN:
    1. Microsoft® C Runtime Library, v. 7.10.3052.4 (ZIP - 177 Kb)
  2. Unzip the package, and copy the msvcr71.dll file to:
    1. C:\WINNT\system32\
  3. Begin the SYSTRAN Mobile installation on your Windows 2000 computer :
    1. Run: SYSTRAN_Mobile-5_0-English.exe

2. How To : General Usage

2.1. What is the file size limit that SYSTRAN Mobile can translate?

SYSTRAN Mobile can translate a file size up to the amount of available memory on the device.


2.2. How do I remove language pairs that I don’t need?

You can use the SYSTRAN Mobile Configuration Utility to add/remove languages installed on your mobile device. To use the SYSTRAN Mobile Configuration Utility :

  1. Connect your mobile device to your PC.
  2. Go to Start->All Programs->SYSTRAN Mobile->SYSTRAN Mobile Configuration Utility.
  3. Select Install or remove language pairs and click Next.
  4. In the dialog box that lists the available language pairs, make sure that the ones you want to install are checked.
  5. Make sure that the language pairs you don’t want to install are unchecked.
  6. Tap Next.

2.3. How do I start SYSTRAN Mobile on my mobile device?

From Start, go to Programs and select SYSTRAN.


2.4. How do I translate text in SYSTRAN Mobile Translator?

Type the text or copy/paste the text that you want to translate from other sources into the source window (upper window). Set the source and target languages on the lower toolbar. Then tap the Translate button located between both windows (between the source and target windows). A progress bar indicating the translation progress will appear. The translation results will be displayed in the target window.


2.5. How do I translate a Word document?

  1. Start SYSTRAN Mobile if it is not already running.
  2. Open the document in Mobile Word.
  3. Highlight the portion of the document that you want to translate or select Menu->Edit->Select All to highlight the entire document.
  4. Tap the SYSTRAN icon in the upper toolbar to open the SYSTRAN popup window.
  5. Set the source and target languages and tap Translate.

2.6. How do I translate an Excel file?

  1. Start SYSTRAN Mobile if it is not already running.
  2. Open the file in Mobile Excel.
  3. Select the cells and Copy the content that you want to translate or select Menu->Edit->Select All to select the entire document.
  4. Tap the SYSTRAN icon in the upper toolbar to open the SYSTRAN popup window .
  5. Set the source and target languages and tap Translate.

2.7. How do I translate a Web page?

  1. Start SYSTRAN Mobile if it is not already running.
  2. Open the page in Internet Explorer.
  3. Select the portion of the page that you want to translate or select Menu->Edit->Select All to select the entire page.
  4. Tap the SYSTRAN icon in the upper toolbar to open the SYSTRAN popup window.
  5. Set the source and target languages and tap Translate.

2.8. How do I translate email in Outlook?

Currently SYSTRAN Mobile is unable to translate email directly from Outlook. This is a problem on the Windows Mobile operating system. Please copy/paste the message to the SYSTRAN Mobile Translator to translate it.


2.9. How do I save the translation result to a file?

To save the translation result from SYSTRAN Mobile to a file, highlight the text in the target window and select Edit->Copy. Open the text editor of your choice, such as Mobile Word. Then Paste the text in the text editor and save it to a file.

To save the text in the SYSTRAN popup to a file, open a text editor after the translation is completed and Paste the text and save it to a file. The translation result is saved in the clipboard after the translation is done.


2.10. How do I close the SYSTRAN Mobile application?

When the SYSTRAN Mobile Translator interface is visible, tap the X icon in the upper right corner of the screen.


2.11. How do I completely exit the SYSTRAN Mobile application?

  1. From Start, go to Settings and open the System tab.
  2. Select Memory and open the Running Programs tab.
  3. Select SYSTRAN and tap Stop.

Alternately, if the SYSTRAN Mobile Translator interface is visible, open the keyboard and type Ctl+q.
